December’s session saw us printing on tote bags with stencils and Indian block prints. We were really looking forward to the printing, you could tell by the numbers – we had to add more tables to fit everyone in! The room looked festive and welcoming with a raffle table and wooden Christmas tree with lights.
Nancy began with a short demonstration, then everyone chose their colours. Some people decided to draw free hand with the fabric crayons and some chose to use the stencils and block prints available.
It really is a lovely feeling to get engrossed in colours and the task of carefully drawing your own creation onto the bag. It feels relaxing and means you can’t think about anything else while you’re engaged in the process.
When some of us asked for help, Nancy showed us useful techniques which helped spur us on and we were really grateful and quite content with our finished tote bags.
Soon it was tea and biscuits with the Christmas raffle! Elaine, one of the participants, had hand crafted the most beautiful glasses case, Xmas decorations and with donations of chocolates, flowers and vouchers from local businesses we were really spoilt.
I’m always amazed by how different everyone’s art is and the finished pieces are really wonderful to see .
As always, many connections were made in this friendly group. We very much look forward to laughing together next month in our ‘Laughter for Well-being’ session on 17 th January.
